VMware Summer Partner Day – relationship building

VMware Summer Partner Day – relationship building

VMware Summer Partner Day sprinkled with summer rain.
Success or fiasco?
An outdoor event should take place in the sunshine. The word summer obliges, evoking only warm feelings. The weather is not under our control, but the atmosphere that was created already is, and this one was excellent 😊.
Provocatively, I started with the rain, although it only added to the charm of the event. The most important thing was the emotions with which I left the meeting, because it is we the people who are the most important. We are the ones who have the power to make and create what surrounds us.
I recently got my hands on the book “Relationship Marketing.Relationships, ties, connections….
Have you noticed that we are all connected to each other, and nothing happens in life by chance?
Building relationships, is the key to success and I will, repeat it like a mantra. At INDEVOPS we know this and we don’t have to build it, because, it just happens.
The VMware Summer Partner Day meeting was supposed to look exactly like this 😊.
Beautiful, smiling people, from small-talk to discussions, exchange of positive thoughts, integration on full 😊 You could sense that there was a hunger for the other, all natural.
I have a feeling that on a daily basis we often forget that in business it can also be spontaneous and relaxed.
That’s how I felt, and so it was. The smell of flowers, the warm evening, the bustle. Everything I was looking forward to, I got.
We were beautifully hosted by VMware, and the Tranquil restaurant was not like that at all that evening, and that’s a big plus 😊.
Although here with the CEO we have a different feeling, because Pawel Orzechowski thinks it was peaceful. Well, we’re both right, because individual experiences count and that’s great!!!

Women in IT

Women in IT

Women in IT by Arrow meeting behind me.
Interesting lectures, new solutions and friendly atmosphere. 😊
It made me think that maybe the whole IT world is not rosy 🌸 for us women, and the statistics do not always speak in our favor, but there is a lot of space for us, and as we know nothing difficult for a wannabe 😊 You have to act!!!

I was recently invited by colleagues to the DEV department, but I like my marketing too much to rebrand myself as a coding specialist 😊
However, my professional path led me ultimately to IT. 😊 And I feel like a speeding bullet here, well good in the water for now 😊.
There’s a bit of work ahead of us cupcakes to break through in this heavily male-dominated industry, but also a light in the tunnel that there are more and more of us. We act boldly, we have a lot of knowledge, strength and clout. We choose the technological areas we are interested in, where we want to work, develop and train.

We act in the IT field, doing what we want and how we want without regard to the stereotypes in society. We are fulfilling our dreams and that’s the way it should be 😊.
Apparently, these wings (pictured) give power and thanks to them we get a real rush to fly! That’s what I’ll stick to.

I will add that in INDEVOPS is also growing every year, us girls.
With us there has always been a balance in this regard, not only because the world forces diversity. Our “FO” girls are now in their fourth year, because they know that at our company it is important to have teamwork and openness to all regardless of gender. As a reminder of how they work 😊 link to article:

And on top of that, the CEO is also a “Virgo”🙂 (zodiac, but always 😊 😋 😉 ).

Successes of the finance and operations team

Successes of the finance and operations team

The overall good functioning of the reality around us is influenced by its individual elements. For a company to work well, many factors are also important. One of them is the good interaction of all the teams, about which there has already been something. https://lnkd.in/egvP4mRV

Today I want to draw your attention to our extremely resilient financial and operational duo, which is led by two energetic girls from the North. Two strong personalities for whom intricate financial, accounting and HR matters have no secrets. All our co-workers know that they are our charming Witches, and as you know or not a Witch is one who has knowledge. And the girls have versatile knowledge and do not hesitate to use it, helping all those for whom the world of finance, is a black magic.

Did it get mysterious?

Well, that’s how it is with us, that in addition to all sorts of IT wizards, we also have a secret power in the form of girls who stand guard and make sure that everything runs smoothly and on time at INDEVOPS. They are especially sensitive to this, 😊 because they know very well that in financial and accounting matters with punctuality is no joke.

It is worth noting that the finance and operations team, although not a development or product team, operates, like the whole company, using the Scrum method. Just like others, they have daily, sprints, play scrum poker and are successful in their field, as evidenced by their excellent results. are evidenced by their excellent results. They keep the company’s accounts in check, count cashflow on a daily basis, keep an eye on timely receipts from sales tasks, take advantage of available opportunities to optimize the company’s costs, keep learning new regulations, which we know are changing at a record pace. It’s impossible to list how many tasks fall on them. In their world there are hard rules of the game and they do not forgive even our CEO 😉 For this, all our, colleagues know that they can count on them and never hear the words: “it can’t be done”, because where the devil can’t there FO works miracles. 😊

Self-reliance and impact on cooperation

Self-reliance and impact on cooperation

In Friday’s mood, I invite you to another portion of my experience of working with INDEVOPS. You may remember how I described the beginning of this adventure and my first month of work 😊 https://lnkd.in/eHXVnCzh

Today I want to write a few words about self-reliance. Something seemingly obvious and seemingly simple to implement? “Be independent!” It is obvious that an adult in his work should show highly developed self-reliance. Then everyone in the organization (as well as in life) has confidence in him and knows that with an independent person, cooperation goes smoothly. The ideal situation?

Independence in my collaboration with Indevops is a key trait, as it makes things easier for everyone, causing work on projects to proceed in a timely manner and without involving other team members. It was not easy to switch to the track of being independent. After all my experiences in corporations, where often everyone knows better what, you should do and how, I suddenly had to and wanted to make decisions on my own.

Decisions of all kinds starting with, for example, what time to start my work. 😊 Yes, yes, you’ll admit yourself that this is an unusual situation 😊 Then, of course, the most important one, which is to plan the workday, choose the tasks to be carried out, maintain focus on their execution and arrange in my head a plan of action in the task.

I often work remotely, this form of work requires exceptional self-reliance and good self-organization. I have done away with distractions such as the phone and music, and organize my desk so that there are only items necessary for work. This significantly improves focus. Treatments very simple, but we often don’t realize how helpful they are. For example, clutter on the desk disorganizes our work and brings unnecessary chaos to it. In my marketing work, self-education is an indispensable element. It is also an element of self-organization. I have to be very active in this sphere and I set myself learning tasks, in the form of webinars or general research on how to improve something, for myself and also for other members of our team – hence our participation some time ago in a Gartner business breakfast https://lnkd.in/eJxPwFih

Inherent in my self-development are also books. I am currently reading, “The Mom Test”.

All the time I have many doubts and questions, because every day I am surprised by new situations, but it is getting better and better, and I stick to the principle that he who asks, does not wander. Asking questions does not represent my dependence at all, but only shows that I approach my responsibilities responsibly and have the courage to admit that I humanly do not know something.

How do you like such a model of cooperation? What does it look like for you?

Write me about it. 😊

Migration of services to the Telegraph Agent

Migration of services to the Telegraph Agent

Participating in the school event “Interesting profession of a parent”, my daughter asked me: “Dad, what do you actually do at your work?”. And something what seems is obvious to me, in the first moment. And I realised that in the first moment I could not explain just like that something what seems obvious to me. It’s not so easy to explain in an understandable way to a ten-year-old girl what architecture design, business automation process, virtualization system or the very meaning of the word “deployment” is. What’s more of that to talk about it in an interesting and understandable way in front of so-called “lodge of mockers” what her peers stand for 😉.

After a moment of reflection and analysis of the recent issues I faced, I told her how in the 21st century, we save something that, in my opinion, is the most precious – time. How to reduce the amount of “gray hair” on her colleagues’ parents’ heads by eliminating repetitive activities from their lives 😊

So briefly today by using the example of the INDEVOPS team’s involvement in a relatively simple issue. Let’s take a look at the major monitoring system for infrastructure, services, applications based on the vRealize Aria Operations solution. It has been expanded over the years and now it uses more than 4,000 EP Ops agent instances. Since the 8.4 version supporting only the telelgraph agent, the long-awaited day had come when those several thousand EP Ops objects had to be “upgraded” to Telegraph objects. Unfortunately, with no upgrading access, this meant not only redefining, but also reconfiguring several thousand new objects.

If anyone of you have manually configured Telegraph objects, then you are well aware of the Sisyphean task you need to face. I’ve already seen the enthusiasm of administrators in clicking on the GUI all the objects one by one. We’ve already seen the satisfaction on the faces of executives of quickly executed reconfigurations and maintaining continuity in monitoring. If it’s only a matter of clicking a few up to several objects, once in a while, using the standard interface system can be fun.

However, in a situation when we have to recreate 4000 thousand objects in a short period of time, reconfigure more objects, introduce naming conventions, we are no longer enthusiastic to the manual execution of the constantly repeating activities. What’s worse, human mistake can always occur, which can prolong the process and make it more annoying. And with this number it means about several months of work.

Therefore, we were given a task to complete: 🙂 Please recreate in the Telegraph agent all HTTP/TCP/ICMP checks, processes and EP Ops services, maintaining the accepted naming convention and continuity of monitoring. Deadline – one month.

We got down to work, as our paramount goal is timeliness, and thus customer satisfaction.

In the first step, an analysis and inventory of all EP ops facilities was performed.

Among other things, we used vrops’ reporting module, which helped us exclude objects that no longer exist or generate errors.

Then our development team, for whom nothing is impossible, developed a configuration tool:

  • HTTP/TCP/ICMP checks
  • Linux process
  • Windows services

It should be mentioned that the solution prepared by us is able to retrieve the current object configuration from the vROPS instance and adapt it to the Telegraf agent configuration template. The administrator, before the final launch, can verify if the data is correctly entered, and if the systems on which the objects will be configured have the Telegraf agent installed.

Each run ends with a summary report listing the objects on which the configuration failed.

Using the tool, the migration process of more than 7,000 objects was completed within 5 days.

Naming standardization has been simplified. And with the simultaneous use of logical grouping rules in the system, objects are automatically assigned to the correct application, environment (production, test), custodian.

Currently, administrators in their daily work actively use the tool when adding more applications to monitoring. Including Telegraf to the monitoring of each successive application reduces the execution time by 50%.

Of course, at my daughter’s school I did not talk about the above example. My speech was a presentation on the use of technology, modern solutions that make our daily life easier and eliminate activities that simply make us people bored by repeating them all the time.

Surprisingly the “lodge of mockers” received my speech with great interest. In the same manner they had many interesting ideas and solutions for eliminating from their lives the everyday activities of going to school and learning.

Working remotely in a different time zone, or how to effectively organize a work day from the US

Working remotely in a different time zone, or how to effectively organize a work day from the US

My day is certainly different from the so-called normal, average work day. I am an INDEVOPS Fellow, a student and swimmer at an American university. Thanks to my passion for the sport, my good swimming performance and my studies, I got the opportunity to go to college in the US and received a scholarship to pay for school.

It’s not an easy road, but thanks to the effort I put in to overcome it I’m successful and can develop myself comprehensively

Each day I have a very heavy workload and I have to stick to the plan to achieve my goal.

My morning training starts at 5:45 a.m. and lasts until 7:30 a.m. As early as 8:00 a.m. I start lectures that last until noon. The learning system in the US is very different from that of Poland. It requires a lot of discipline and your own #organization of work. At 4:45 p.m. it’s time for another workout which lasts until 6:15 p.m. Every other day I also have a gym, which I start at 3:30 p.m. During the season it’s about 20 hours of training a week In the afternoon I have time to take a break and review the tasks that have been received for completion from my #Indevops team. I review what happened in the #company the previous day and start taking action. Thanks to the good management of the whole team, I can do #projects that do not require constant support and constant interaction with clients. However, if some tasks require the help of colleagues, I ask questions in the tasks we collaborate on and have an answer the very next day. The rest of the team can focus 100% on other projects. The only downside is that I don’t have much contact with the #team, as I miss most meetings, e.g., #daily or client meetings due to the 6-hour time difference. On the other hand, on #review and on #planning I try to be so I am up to date and know what to focus on in a given #sprint. I believe that #communication in the team is at a very high level. I can always count on the support of colleagues and quick response. I am glad that I got the opportunity to work in INDEVOPS thanks to this I can develop and support the Polish market. Many people ask me why I don’t want to work in the US. Unfortunately, after 3 years here, I think I don’t fit into the current culture of life and way of working, and I associate my future with Poland.

INDEVOPS is a fast growing company that reached out to me and trained me so that I always have something to come back to when my educational adventure in the United States is over.
